Bantry Bay Books of Chicago and Los Angeles, an imprint of Bantry Bay Media, LLC, takes its name from the area on Ireland's southern tip where the lush, lovely, rolling hills of western County Cork meet the Irish Sea at the village of Bantry. Co-publisher Diane Montiel's family roots are in those hills above Bantry.

The white-haired gentleman gazing over his farmland on our home page is John O'Tatie O'Leary.  He was the first cousin of Diane's mother, Mary O'Leary Hanley Main.  Diane's love of books was reinforced by the months she and her daughters, Katie and Maggie, lived in nearby Kealkill, her family's ancestral home. The Irish weather was often rainy and cold, which encouraged snuggling up with a good book. After a career in the corporate world, Diane realized a life-long dream of owning and operating a bookstore: Hamlet's Bookshoppe in Breckenridge, Colorado, shown below in a painting by one of her customers. Diane's passion for books, and her husband Steve Alexander's passion for writing and editing, found a common purpose in Bantry Bay Books, with a goal of helping people tell and sell their stories.
